Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

Iceland is covered in snow these days. When residents in Reykjavík woke up this morning they had to dig their way out to their cars, sweep the ca 30 cm of snow from the top of their cars and finally shovel their way out to the street. Some of those who were out early, before municipal workers got their first attempt at clearing the streets, got stuck and had to be helped by the rescue team. Some of the cars which got stuck are in the way of snow plows, making it even more difficult to keep the streets clear.

Christmas Concerts and Free Music Events in Iceland

Christmas Concerts and Free Music Events in Iceland An unconventional Christmas concert will take place at the Culture House in Reykjavík tomorrow where Muck, Sudden Weather Change and The Heavy Experience will play under the title “Kertasníkir kemur” (“Candle Beggar Comes”), referring to the last of the 13 Icelandic Yule Lads, who actually isn’t scheduled to come to town until December 24. At the Culture House the bands will play in a space different from the “poorly-lit night clubs” they’re used to, a press release describes. The concert begins at 8 pm. Pre-concert tickets are sold at the record stores Smekkleysa and 12 Tónar at ISK 1,000 (USD 8.2, EUR 6.3) and at ISK 1,500 at the door. The Culture House (Þjóðmenningarhúsið) is located on Hverfisgata 15. On Friday the record label Records Records will host a Christmas concert at NASA on Austurvöllur square in central Reykjavík starting at 10:30 pm where this year’s album releases will be presented. The bands Of Monsters and Men, Agent Fresco, Sykur, Orphic Oxtra and Lockerbie will perform and their albums will be sold at a discount price at the occasion. Pre-concert tickets are available at ISK 1,500 (USD 12.3, EUR 9.5) on midi.is.
